UK staff 'expect to change jobs' within 5 years

Most workers in the UK expect to be in a different job in five years' time, the latest survey has revealed.

Research carried out by AAT shows that more than half of UK staff feel that they will be with a different employer by 2017, with many expecting to change career entirely.

Only three in ten staff are happy to commit themselves to their current place of work, while many would gladly quit their current role for a better-paying position with another company.

The typical UK adult will begin looking for other opportunities after just one year and five months in the same job, with the average worker dramatically changing their career path at least twice during their lifetime.

One quarter of respondents said the thought of staying with the same company for life was 'boring', while one in five said it would make them feel trapped.

Jane Scott Paul, chief executive at AAT, commented: "It's surprising that people are quite as willing to leave their current company, but the trend is very much moving away from a long-term commitment to a workplace and seems geared far more towards personal progression."
